Chat, comments and notifications in the terminal

kodeo who, chat, summon, comments, comment and inbox — the room from the CLI, where you appear as "· CLI". Plus desktop notifications, which are opt-in.

Everything here works inside a linked folder, with --project <workspace>/<project>, or for the project you picked with kodeo switch.

Who's here

kodeo who
kodeo who --follow # keeps the list live

It shows each person with their client (browser, VS Code, CLI), the file they're in, whether they're typing, whom they follow, and who is running the project. While you use these commands, teammates see you as "· CLI" — present, never editing, with no cursor to follow.

Chat

kodeo chat # the last week, then a chat box on a terminal
kodeo chat "deploy is green @asha" # send one
kodeo chat --follow # stream new messages

@username notifies that person. Anything that looks like a secret is masked before it's sent.

Summon

kodeo summon src/app.ts:42 --note "this is the bug"

People in the room get a prompt to jump there; teammates who aren't get a notification that opens that line.

Comments

kodeo comments # open threads, by file
kodeo comments --resolved # or --mine, --mentions
kodeo comment src/app.ts:42 "should this be async?"
kodeo comment reply 7c2e "done"
kodeo comment resolve 7c2e

Ids can be shortened to their first characters. The threads are the same ones the editor and VS Code show.

Notifications

kodeo inbox # by day
kodeo inbox open 3fa1 # go where it points
kodeo inbox read --all
kodeo inbox --follow # new ones as they arrive

open takes you to the right place: a file and line in your editor, a ticket or a Help article right in the terminal, anything else in the browser.

Pop-ups and desktop notifications

Inside kodeo watch and kodeo ui, new notifications pop up. They follow your KODEO settings — the types with Push on, plus mentions, replies, summons and review requests — and KODEO's pause and quiet hours. Choose how many with kodeo config popups important|all|off.

To see them on your desktop too (Windows, macOS or Linux), turn it on — it's off by default:

kodeo config desktop on # titles only — never message text on a locked screen
kodeo config desktop full # with the text

A notification shown by the CLI isn't shown again by KODEO for VS Code on the same computer, and the other way round.
