Collaboration

Live collaboration

Edit together with live cursors, follow a teammate, comment on lines, chat, save checkpoints — and what Solo mode means.

1 min readUpdated 27 Sept 2026

Open the same project as a teammate and you're editing together — every keystroke appears for everyone, with each person's cursor and name in their colour.

Presence and follow mode

The avatars in the top bar show who's here and which file they're in. Click someone to follow them: your editor goes where they go and scrolls with them. Typing, clicking elsewhere or pressing Esc stops following.

Bring everyone here sends the whole room to the line you're on.

Comments and chat

  • Select code and press Ctrl/⌘ + Alt + M to comment on it. Threads stay attached to the code even as it moves. On a phone, select text and choose Comment.
  • @mention someone to notify them.
  • Chat is one conversation per project.

Checkpoints

Save a named checkpoint of the files before a big change; compare it with now, and restore it if needed. KODEO also saves automatic checkpoints as you work.

How many can edit

Free projects allow 2 live editors, Pro 10, Team 50. Anyone beyond that joins as a spectator — they watch live and can comment, and take a seat as soon as one frees up.

Solo mode

If the live connection drops (or live collaboration is paused), the editor switches to Solo mode: you keep editing and saving normally, with version checks so nothing is overwritten. It reconnects on its own. See Solo mode and reconnecting.
