Trash and checkpoints in VS Code

Get a deleted file back from the Trash view, or a file's earlier text from a checkpoint — in VS Code, for everyone in the project.

The Trash

Deleting a file or folder in a kodeo:// window (or pushing a deletion from a linked folder, or deleting in the browser) puts it in the project's trash for 7 days. In VS Code it's the Trash view in the KODEO sidebar:

  • each entry shows what was deleted, where, by whom, how long ago, and when it goes for good;
  • Restore brings it back — for everyone in the project, where it was;
  • Delete Forever removes one entry now; Empty Trash removes them all (both ask first and can't be undone).

The view updates by itself when a teammate deletes or restores something. Viewers can look but not restore.

Checkpoints

A checkpoint is a saved copy of one file's text, shared with the web editor.

  • KODEO: Create Checkpoint saves the file you have open (with an optional name).
  • KODEO: Checkpoints… lists the file's checkpoints (yours, teammates' and the automatic ones); pick one to restore it. The current text is saved as a checkpoint first, so a restore can itself be undone.

For older history, use Git: KODEO Git: File History shows every commit that changed the file, and right-clicking one lets you restore that version.
